Galiano School is located in the Southern Gulf Islands of BC.
Beyond being a rural school, we are a community school, and that’s huge. The involvement of parents, relatives and friends takes us to a level of richness that makes wonderful things possible. Parents put serious (and fun) time into our garden, where students plant, tend, harvest and reap the culinary rewards. Our recycling is a passion of our custodian, who gives extra time to teach us all about “less garbage, more recycling, better recycling”.
The Men’s Soccer Association works with our maintenance department to give us an unbelievably fine soccer field.
The Galiano Activity Centre Society is physically and philosophically bonded with our school. They provide opportunities for all sorts of activities after school and in the summer.
We have a family trust fund called the Mabberley Trust that allows us to have special annual projects in the arts and PE, and have a sports fun day with our ‘sister school’ on Kuper Island.
Galiano is the home to Gulf Islands Film and Television School, and our school has benefitted. GIFTS gifts us with weeklong adventures in writing, shooting and editing video stories.
Many years ago, the pioneer Robson family deeded fifteen acres to the children of Galiano. We are surrounded by a gift and every day is enriched by gifts. We are a little school in the heart of a rural community that cares.
We celebrate that.
